8/16/15 – More Learning

Today has turned out to be quite beautiful and we even saw little pieces of what may be the Matterhorn.  We are not sure because the whole thing is still surrounded by clouds.  The parts we have seen are covered with new snow.  One of the webcams, which you can see by googling Zermatt webcams and clicking on the word English in the first option that comes up on Google, shows lots of snow.  We have seen several people headed up with skis!

8/15/15 – Made It!

Emily and Chris’s epic adventure has begun!  It is Saturday night at 7:38pm here in rainy Zermatt. We got here about 4:30 pm Zermatt time after leaving our house yesterday at 7 am mountain time. Needless to say it has been a long trip. Fortunately we were able to get our upgrade from Dulles to Brussels and as some of you know, business class is the ONLY way to fly overseas. If we can help it, we will not be flying coach again on any overseas (Europe) trips. The huge comfy seats that turn into lay-flat beds are worth the extra money by themselves! What really puts it over the top though is the excellent service you get in what United refers to as their “Premium,” cabins. Your choice of movies, real food, those little warm towels that you wipe your face and hands with…the list goes on.  There was even fancy cheesecake and sorbet after the dinner. I could go on, but I figure you want to know a little about where we are.

4/30/15 – Thursday in Kauai

 I decided to add the little video attachment this time to give those of you wondering an idea of what the garden and walkway to the house are really like.  For those using Google Earth to look at the place, I really don’t know what it shows because I haven’t looked at it.  The house has a green tiled roof with white walls and is certainly longer and narrower than it is wide.  It is however quite large.  Certainly large enough for 2 people!  Hopefully the video gives a view of some of the flowers and plants and statuary so that some of you experts can correct my technical/scientific names of the flowers.

4/29/15 – Welcome to the Jungle

Welcome to the jungle, we have sun and shade.  For those not into 80’s Hair/Metal bands that was a little tribute to Gun’s n’ Roses.  I decided to title today’s blog, “Welcome to the Jungle” because of the place we are staying.  If you want to see a little about what I mean, surf on over to VRBO.com and look for 3786 Punahele Road, Kauai, HI.  Also try Sh’Zen which is the actual name of the house where we are struggling to abide.

12/13/13 – Boarding Again

 It is nice to know that the weather forecasters in Canada are just as bad as the ones in Colorado.  A one inch prediction of snow turns into three inches and 2 inches turns into 6 inches.  I am sure the opposite is true as well, just as it is in Colorado.  Since there was a fair bit more snow than predicted, M and I decided to take advantage and head back up to Revelstoke Mountain Resort again today.  It turned out to be a very good decision.

12/10/13 – Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Steamboat claims to have very good “champagne” powder.  I can now tell you that Revelstoke has powder so dry and light that it was barely able to fall to the ground.  We awoke this morning to a solid 8 or so inches of brand new snow on top of whatever we had yesterday. There is a street light just outside the house that allows us an excellent view of what the weather is doing at night or in the pre-dawn darkness.  As I watched the snow out the window this morning, I had the impression that it was struggling to sink because of its lightness.
